BDicty is a multilanguage dictionary program for PalmPilot. It uses unidirectional (that is, only one direction of translating) databases (lexicons), but supports multiple lexicons. To be able to make translations between two languages you would need to have two lexicons. For example, you may need to have English-to-German database and German-to-English lexicons.
The program is fairly simple and intuitive to use: just install it along with the lexicons you want and there you go!
One thing to mention about BDicty is that it can run public and licensed lexicons. Public lexicons can be used by anyone while the licensed are encrypted and licensed only to a specific user (by the HotsyncID).
No two licensed lexicons are identical, even if the HotsyncIDs are same! You can create such lexicons yourself by using GenBDicty utility from Beiks Ltd.
- Sometimes the fastest way to enter a word is through Palm's visual keyboard, especially if you know how to spell the word you are looking for.
- To add/update word, just enter the word and tap in the description field, then enter the translation text. When ready, hit the "Rec" button that had appeared on the screen.
- You can not edit/delete "original" (not entered by you) words.
- To delete a word, just leave its translation empty and tap the "Rec" button.
- To Undo all changes in description, tap in the word's field and change it to any other word.
- Choose mode "1" (wider words list) when looking for a word in the languages with longer words (like German). Choose mode "2" when you find the word to see more of its translation on the screen.
- This is the shareware version of the program. It does not allow you to expand databases with your entries.
- You can get the commercial version (register) for $10 from www.beiks.com (or directly www.pilotgear.com) or by emailing us.
- The lexicons for the program are distributed separately and could have different prices or even be free. This is completely up to each lexicon publisher.
- Registered users get further program versions and use discounts on all other our products.
- When buying a dictionary module, you will probably have to provide your HotsyncID
