Introduction

Sail the high sea of stars in your own deep space exploration vessel. Explore exotic star systems; seek out new technologies, artefacts and lifeforms; boldly blow up stuff where no one has blown up stuff before!

Strange Adventures in Infinite Space is different every time it is played. Stars, planets, black holes, nebula mass, alien patrols, items, lifeforms and other encounters are randomized for each new Strange Adventure.

Strange Adventures features:

How To Install

Use an extractor program such as WinZip on the PC or Stuffit Expander (on the Mac) to get at the Strange Adventures in Infinite Space files. Install the game by double-clicking the .prc file, which opens the Palm Install Tool program.

Use the HotSync button as usual to install the game onto your handheld. If you have a handheld with an expansion card, you can then move the game over to it. Do this before you register the game!

Now run Strange Adventures in Infinite Space and tap the screen to play the game!

If you've got any queries about Strange Adventures in Infinite Space or the registration process, first check out our knowledge base on our website (you must be connected to the internet to access this). If this doesn't help, get in touch with us at support@astraware.com. If you've got any questions (or suggestions, we love those) about the game itself, please get in touch with us at the email address at the top of this page.

How to Play

So great is the scope of SAIS, that it wouldn't be possible give a full overview of the game controls in such a small space! Please play through the tutorial for a complete run through of the game and its controls, or to the included PDF document which also features an extended walkthrough of an example game!

Actions in Strange Adventures can be accomplished by tapping on objects, enemies or other buttons, so experiment! Take especial note of the small red arrows in the top left and top right corners of the screen. These will typically switch you through different screens (such as your ships cargo bay, or the repair screen) as you tap on them

Trading

Trading with the Klakar, a friendly race of intergalactic traders, is key to success in the game. They will often be the first aliens you meet, and almost always have better equipment which they will freely trade with you!

You can exchange any single item of yours for any single item of theirs, even if it's obviously better! The Klakar aren't picky about the items they get in return, so take advantage of that to get the best you possibly can

You can call the Klakar to trade with you as often as you like by using their Klakar Beacon (see the tutorial in-game), but note that the Klakar may not come if the system is threatened by a supernova!

Finally, any equipment still attached (in use) by your ship does count towards your final payment, so don't be afraid to use them!

Combat

Combat works again by a simple tap interface

Your ship has two weapon mounts, each of which fires over either a left or right arc of the ship (the top slot fires to the left side, the lower lost to the right side). You cannot fit more than two weapons, so it is wise to trade with the Klakar for good weapons!

If you simply tap on an enemy ship, they will be surrounded by a red reticule, and you will fly towards them, firing any weapons as they are able to. Your weapons will also fire on an enemy you don't have targeted, if it is within the weapons firing arc.

Hints and Tips

Here are a few tips on items that will help you, and some tactics you may find useful in your adventures in infinite space!

Weapons and Combat

The Particle Vortex Cannon and the Multi Missile Launcher are two great weapons, but both are very long ranged, and at close ranges it can be harder getting them to fire on the enemy. It can sometimes be worth mounting a closer range weapon such as the Explosive Shell Chaingun (yes, it is good if used right!), or the Plasma Blaster to help with closer enemies.
Of course, having a Particle Vortex Cannon and a Multi-missile Launcher is a combination that few can withstand for long!

Beams weapons have very low accuracy, and so aren't very good without better computers to aid you

Keep an eye out for the Mnemonic Sequencer, Eidetic Matrix Bubble, or the Sardion Optimizer. These targeting computers aid your weapons in firing accurately at an enemy

There are better shields available for your ship, and are well worth trading for as soon as you can

Better thrusters affect how quickly you can turn and move in combat, and out manoeuvering your foe in combat can be the key to defeating a more powerful foe!

When fighting several small fighters, it helps to try and keep them on the same side as a close range fast firing weapon

You can Retreat from combat if the enemy is too strong, allowing you chance to repair at a safer system or to try other systems in the hope of finding more powerful equipment. To do so, simply tap on the wrench icon in combat to open the ship/equipment status screen, and tap on "Retreat". Sometimes, other abilities become available here as well if you have the right items!

Which items are best?

Read the item names and descriptions carefully, and experiment! As a general rule, the more advanced or exotic an item is, the more likely it is to be worth a lot!

Registering

In Demo form, you can play 10 games of Strange Adventures in Infinite Space for free, as you decide whether you like it or not. After these games are up, the program will display a short message reminding you to register each time you play!

If you beam a demo to someone else, and they also like the game, then they can register it either by purchasing a copy from a local store or by purchasing online.

Registering Online:

For those that like the speed and convenience of buying via the internet, when you register for the game, you'll get a code which will unlock the game and remain valid for future upgrades. Go to the web page at http://www.astraware.com/palm/sais/ for more details.

You'll need to know your HotSync ID which you can find by running Strange Adventures in Infinite Space, opening into the menus, and selecting the 'Register...' option. Your HotSync ID will be filled in for you below.

When you register, Astraware will generate a key based on your ID, which will normally be sent out by email within 48 hours of you registering. When you receive your key, go to the same register option, and enter the key into the space provided.
