HackMaster v0.9 (Shareware $5) http://www.daggerware.com/hackmstr.htm Control panels for your Pilot The PalmOS is really nice, but there are some things that can only be done by supplementing or bypassing it entirely. Unfortunately, writing a system patch is not an easy thing to do, and there are inherent problems with inter-patch conflicts, as many Mac and PC users are familiar with. Enter HackMaster. This is a system extension manager for your PalmPilot. It utilizes an open standard for separately-downloadable "Hack" files, and provides the means of managing them. It performs the dirty work of installing and uninstalling the patches, and even maintains a proper chain of Hacks that try to patch the same trap. It allows you to install and uninstall them in any order, instantly, without restarting (ask your desktop computer to do that!). Plus, it records your currently active set of extensions, and gives you the option of automatically reinstalling them after a soft reset. This is as close to a revolution in the PalmPilot world as you're likely to see. A number of other third-party developers have already embraced the HackMaster protocol as the system patch method of choice. Wondering what sort of Hacks are available for you to use? Check out PilotGear's HackMaster section. More are being added all the time! Want to write your own Hack? Check out the HackMaster API, which tells you all you need to know about the file format, calling conventions, and everything else. I'm sure you just wanna download it at this point. Here it is: Download HackMaster v0.9 (11K) This software is shareware. If you find yourself using it regularly, you are honor-bound to register it. This also gets you the added benefit of being automatically notified of future upgrades (always free to registered users) and additional DaggerWare programs. Questions? Check out the HackMaster FAQ. How to Register: Hackmaster is shareware ($5 US) Register your DaggerWare software Thanks for honoring the shareware ideal by registering your software. We here at DaggerWare don't believe in crippleware, so we have to rely on the good nature of Netizens to recoup the costs of quality software development. But on the bright side, registering your DaggerWare software gets you the benefit of automatic email notification whenever one of the programs you registered is updated (updates are always free), and automatic email notification whenever we release a completely new product! How to register All of our registrations are now handled through PilotGear Headquarters. They maintain a secure server to accept credit cards for all registrations, as well as taking telephone orders if you just don't trust the current state of electronic commerce. Go to the DaggerWare software order page at PilotGear http://www2.viaweb.com/pilotgearsw/daggerware.html Other methods to register Unfortunately, the PilotGear server is not yet set up to handle all allowable registration options. We at DaggerWare believe firmly in the shareware ideal of "value is in the eye of the user", so we accept registration fees in any amount, depending on how valuable you find our software. The suggested fees are only that. If you'd like to take advantage of this and send us a fee of your choice, you can snail-mail us a check in US dollars for the appropriate amount, along with your name and email address. We can also accept US currency, international postal money orders, chocolate, postcards, and so forth. The address is: DaggerWare P.O. Box 397263 Cambridge, MA 02139-7263 USA And if you really really want to be on our emailing list, but are really really short of funds or have some sort of strange religious commandment against paying for software, plead your case to icantpay@daggerware.com. What happened to First Virtual? We formerly accepted payment by the First Virtual electronic payment system. However, in recent times they have changed their fee structure so that it is no longer economical for people to sign up just to register with us. In addition, the number of registrants has rapidly outstripped the ability of DaggerWare's paltry secretarial staff to deal with. Therefore we are now relying solely on PilotGear to manage electronic registrations, while we deal directly only with snail-mailed registrations. If you have previously attempted to register using our First Virtual form, but have not received a reply or payment query, you should be shortly receiving an email from us with instructions on how to re-register with PilotGear under special "I've been screwed by First Virtual" discount terms. If you have not received such a note by May 1, 1998, and you think your should have, please email FVsucks@daggerware.com for more information. It is our hope that under these new arrangements we at DaggerWare can concentrate on what we love -- coding killer Pilot software -- and also improve our registration response time significantly. Thank you for your patience.
