How to install

Use an extractor program such as WinZip on the PC or Stuffit Expander on the Mac to get at the Mad Gab files.

Use the HotSync button as usual to install the game onto your handheld.

Now run Mad Gab and tap the screen to play the game!

Playing Mad Gab

In the game you are presented with clues to a phrase or saying that you should be able to hear if you read the clue out load.

For example if you say 'Thaw Why Dowse' then you should hear 'The White House' and if you say 'Ease Tough He Den' you should hear 'East of Eden'.

Running Mad Gab

Install and run the game on your Palm.

In the game there are two ways of playing on your own. You can simply see a puzzle and try to guess the answer or you can have a timed puzzle where the clock will count down as you try to solve the clue. In both cases when you have seen the answer you can either go on to another puzzle or you can return to the game selection screen.

There are also two multiplayer games available:

Speed Challenge : All the players see each puzzle and race to see who can get it right (if anyone can!).

Brain Strain : Pass the palm between the players and see who can get the most right answers.

In each of the multiplayer games you must first add the players and enter their names and the number of questions to be asked. The game will then give you instructions on how to proceed, for example when to pass to the next player and when to enter if someone got their puzzle right or not.

You can also customize the operation of the game through the 'Game Settings' where you can set the volume of the game sounds, whether to show the background, the appearance of the clock, the length of the timer and the font to use for showing the puzzles. In addition to this you can also change between the analog and digital clock by tapping on it.

Mad Gab Daily Popup

The pop-up program can be used to show a new puzzle each day when you turn on your Palm. To activate this go into the pop-up program and select 'Activate Pop-up' from the 'Game' menu. You can also disable it from the 'Deactivate Pop-up' option and view today's puzzle by tapping on the on screen button.

When the pop-up is active it will sleep until the following day after you have revealed the answer to today's puzzle.

Note: The pop-up mode will only work on machines with Palm OS 3.5 and later and is incompatible with the use of system hacks.

Registering

The Mad Gab Demo comes with two weeks worth of daily pop up puzzles, and an extra 36 puzzles for free, as you decide whether you like it or not.

After these games are up, the program will display a short message asking you to register.

When you register for the game, you'll get a key which will unlock the game and remain valid for future 1.x upgrades. Go to the Mad Gab web page at http://www.astraware.com/palm/madgab/ for more details.

You'll need to know your HotSync ID which you can find by running Mad Gab, and going into the menu, and selecting the 'register' option. Your HotSync ID (or username) will be filled in for you below.

When you register, we will generate a key based on your ID, which will normally be sent out by email within 48 hours of you registering. When you receive your key, go to the same register option, and enter the key into the space provided.

Also when you register, we will provide you with two databases for you to install - a 'Daily Popup Pack' and a pack of 750 puzzles. You will need to load these on to your Palm to play the extra packs.

Another benefit of registering is that you can then take advantage of the extra Puzzle Packs which Astraware and Patch Products will make available. These will be offered via the MadGab4Palm web site with new packs being available every couple of months for the real Mad Gab addicts!
