Introduction

TacTic! Its you against the brain in a battle of wits!

Everyone can play tic-tac-toe - but this game takes it a whole step further! Now you're playing on a grid that's 5 by 5, and the aim is no longer to make the first line of three - now you have to make the most lines!

You're playing against the brain, and you're going to have to think ahead to win - the old rules may not be good enough anymore!

TacTic Features

How To Install

Use an extractor program such as WinZip on the PC or Stuffit Expander on the Mac to get at the TacTic files. Install the game by double-clicking the prc file.

Use the HotSync button as usual to install the game onto your handheld.

Now run TacTic and tap the screen to play the game!

If you've got any queries about TacTic or the registration process, first check out our frequently asked questions page on our website (you must be connected to the internet to access this). If this doesn't help, get in touch with us at support@astraware.com. If you've got any questions (or suggestions, we love those) about the game itself, please get in touch with us at the email address at the top of this page.

How To Play TacTic!

Objectives

As in Tic-Tac-Toe the objective in TacTic is to create as many runs of X's or O's on the board as you can. Points are scored for runs of 3, 4 or 5 and the person with the highest score at the end wins.

Scoring

  • Run of 3 = 2 points
  • Run of 4 = 5 points
  • Run of 5 = 10 points

Points are awarded based on the highest run thus a run of 4 can not count as 2 runs of 3 and 1 run of 4.

How to Play

  1. Selecting a difficulty setting: Select a difficulty setting on the title screen by tapping on the 'Easy' 'Med' or 'Hard' buttons.
  2. Playing the game: Tap on an empty square to make your move.
  3. Blocked Squares: There are 3 squares blacked out to create an asymmetric playing field. This is done to eliminate the significant advantage the player going first has with a symmetric playing field.

Registering

If you downloaded the game straight from the internet, from Astraware's web pages, or from one of the popular Palm download sites, then your copy is in 'Demo' form. Demo means that you can play 10 games for free, and then decide whether to register it or not. After these games are up, the program will display a short message before each game.

In Demo form, you can play 10 games of TacTic for free, as you decide whether you like it or not. After these games are up, the program will display a short message asking you to register or purchase a full version from a shop!

If you beam a demo to someone else, and they also like the game, then they can register it either by purchasing a copy from a local store, or by purchasing online.

Registering Online:

For those that like the speed and convenience of buying of the internet, when you register for the game, you'll get a key which will unlock the game and remain valid for future 1.x upgrades. Go to the web page at http://www.astraware.com/palm/tactic
for more details.

You'll need to know your HotSync ID which you can find by running TacTic, and going into the menu, and selecting the 'register' option. Your HotSync ID (or username) will be filled in for you below.

When you register, Astraware will generate a key based on your ID, which will normally be sent out by email within 48 hours of you registering. When you receive your key, go to the same register option, and enter the key into the space provided.
