Introduction =============================================================== Mergic VPN is Virtual Private Network (VPN) client for Palm OS devices. It uses the Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP) to provide secure access to your private network. A complete description of product features and requirements can be found in the User's Guide. This trial version of the product is identical to the release version with the following exceptions: - After 15 days it can no longer be used to connect to the private network. - It pops up reminders that this is a trial version every time a VPN connection is made. - This readme contains trial version information. =============================================================== 2. Installation =============================================================== To install just HotSync the MVPNInstall.prc file to the device and tap on the MVPN Install icon on the handheld. =============================================================== 3. Removal =============================================================== If you need to remove Mergic VPN do a soft reset of the handheld and then without connecting to the network use the launcher to delete Mergic VPN files. =============================================================== 4. Update Information for Version 1.1b =============================================================== 1.1b Updates: - Added support for PalmOne Tungsten T5. - Improved DNS support with Split Tunneling feature. =============================================================== 5. Known Issues =============================================================== - The Auto Connect feature does not work with ACCESS browsers. ACCESS browsers include NetFront 3.0 on Sony CLIEs, Blazer 5 on Treo 600s, and Web on PalmOne Treo 650, PalmOne Tungsten T5 and Palm Tungsten C devices. - Only passive mode FTP connections to the private network are supported. - Mergic VPN is incompatible with BiTween's RC for PalmOS. The Palm OS only allows four open TCP/IP sockets. Mergic VPN requires two sockets and BiTween's RC for PalmOS requires three sockets. Palm VNC and Win-Hand remote control products are both compatible with Mergic VPN. - Mergic VPN is only compatible with the Sony PEGA-WL100 and PEGA-WL110 Wireless LAN Cards on devices with Palm OS 5.x. - Mergic VPN is not compatible with the HandEra CF LAN, the CF Ethernet Network Services or the Symbol Spectrum24 Network Service. These Pre OS 5 devices don't use the Palm OS virtual driver interfaces that are required by Mergic VPN to encrypt network traffic. - Keyguard needs to be disabled on the Treo 600 if scheduled VPN connections that wake up the device are required. An example of this would be periodic email retrieval using SnapperMail. =============================================================== 6.
