Mage's Maze SL - MANUAL

1. Introduction

Thank you for playing "Mage's Maze SL". This is a 3D-maze type role playing game. I hope you will enjoy this game.

2. Required environment

I think that you can run this game on OS 4.0 or later. Maybe 3.5. I recommend color devices. I checked following environment.

• Palm OS Emulator + OS 4.0 ROM
• Palm m505
• PalmOne Tungsten T3
• Palm TX

3. Story

One day, the evil mage came in a certain kingdom. He placed a curse on the princess of the kingdom. And he gave the king two options to rescue the princess, to pass the throne on to him or defeat him. The king selected a second option. He recruited a person who is confident of one's ability, and promised to give an enormous reward to the one who defeated the mage. You are one of them. The mage created the maze at outskirts of the kingdom and he is waiting at deep floor. The maze is very large and deep. If you enter, it's only way to get out that you defeat him. Will you defeat the mage or will your life be finished in the maze?

In this package you should find

5. How to play

Title screen

[Start] : You can start new game.
[Continue] : You can restart game.
Saves are automatic when you switch out of this application.

Maze screen

You can act by tapping buttons at right side of screen. And you can move by pressing hardkeys. Treo's 5way is supported only pageup and pagedown. Left and right is not supported.

1. Maze area : The maze in front of you is shown here.
2. [Go forward] button : You go forward.
3. [Turn left] button :You turn left.
4. [Turn right] button : You turn right.
5. [Turn back] button : You turn back.
6. [Map] button : It displays your map.
7. [Status] button : It displays your status.
8. [Inventory] button : It displays your inventory and you can use an item.
9. [Eat] button : You eat a meal. Your HP will be restored a little.
10. [Rest] button : You have rest and your HP will be restored a little. But you may encounter a monster before restoration.
11. Message area : Game's messages are shown here. Usual display is as follows.
    HP:14/20 LV:1 B1F(2,1) E normal
    These means current HP, max HP, level, current floor and position, direction, condition.

• Page Up key : Go forward
• Page Down key : Turn back
• Address key or 5way left : Turn left
• ToDo key or 5way right : Turn right

Map screen

This screen is shown when you tap [Map] button. The place to which you went is automatically written in the map. The top in the map is north.

• Gray square : passage
• Black square : wall
• White square : places where you haven't reached
• Red point : current position

Status screen

This screen is shown when you tap [Status] button.

• HP : Your hit points. It decreases when you get damaged in battle. You will die when it become zero. It will be restored a little when you [Eat] or [Rest] or walk for a while .
• Attack : Your strength and weapon's power. The higher attack power can give the larger damage.
• Defence : Your endurance and armor's power. The higher defence power can take the smaller damage.
• Weapon : Your Weapon. The attack power increases and decreases with equipped weapon.
• Armor : Your Armor. The defence power increases and decreases with equipped armor.
• Belt : Your belt. Other than normal belt, There are special effects in the belt obtained this maze.
• LV : Your level. Gaining a level increases your HP, Attack, Defence.
• Exp : Your experience points. Defeating monsters will gain you some experience points and eventually increase your level.
• Next : Needed experience points to gain next level.
• Food : Number of rations of food you have. If it is zero, you can't [Eat].
• Gold : Number of pieces of gold you have. You may get them when you defeat monsters. You can use them for purchase.
• Condition : Your condition. It changes normal, hungry, starving. When you have a meal, it turns normal. If it is starving, you will die at length.
• Time : This is an elapsed time from the game start. It increases when you walk or rest.
• Location : Current floor, position, direction.

Inventory screen

This screen is shown when you tap [Use] button. This screen is also shown to select an item for throwing away when you get something but your pack is full. There are potions and scrolls. It will be shown as [Scroll of ??] or [Potion of ??] because you can't understand what it is when you pick it up first time. Inventory will automatically identify potions and scrolls as they are used. Or you can identify by using [Scroll of identify]. Potions will be lost when you use. But you can use scrolls several times, Maybe you can use one time.

• Scrolls
  They have magical power. You can release its power by reading. If their magical power is gone, they turn to dust. Almost every scrolls are only effective in battle. [Scroll of identify] is exception. It is effective in moving or battle.
• Potions
  It is an internal medicine that is in a flask. It have a good or bad effect. Please drink it considering your situation.

Battle screen

This screen is shown when you encounter an enemy. Your options are as follows.

1. Attack : You can attack the enemy by tapping enemy's graphic. If you tap other than enemy's graphic, you will fail. Every enemy have a weak point, and you can give larger damage when you tap the weak point.
2. Use : You can use by tapping [Inventory] button.
3. Flee : Tap [Flee] button on right side of screen. You may fail.

Menu

You can open this menu on maze screen or battle screen.
[Save] : It saves current record. You can save 5 records.
[Load] : It loads saved record.
[Option] : Only version display.

6. Hints

• The maze is created automatically and it is different each time you play.
• The deeper floor is the larger.
• You can't go back to former floor. It's only way to go back to the ground that you defeat the mage.
• There are stairs to go down in a corner of southeast.
• The mage who will be defeated by you is at the 20th basement floor.
