The principal web site for Pilot-DB is located at: Sourceforge.
Two versions of Pilot-DB are available, the first containing all the standard tools while the second one only contains the tools that are strictly necessary. That implies, among other things, that plugin support has been omitted from the second file.
The default version of Pilot-DB has an interface in English. It is quite possible that you may come across a version in another language.
The choice of an interface language is done by adding the overlay-*.prc file, which corresponds to the language chosen. The use of French, for instance, would be set up by adding overlay-fr.prc. Currently, the languages supported are:
German (de)
French (fr)
Portuguese (pt)
Swedish (sv)
Japanese (ja)
Spanish (es)
Catalan (ca)
Slovak (sk)
Norwegian (no)
Translations may not be up-to-date. Check the release date for the overlay.zip file, which contains the latest version of the translations. Should you want to participate in translation work, please read the chapter covering the development.
To conserve space on your machine, we have separated the online help from the main application.
When executing Pilot-DB for the first time, you will encounter an empty help window. The online help contents are located in the language-dependent help-*.prc file.
Pilot-DB allows the use of plugins to extend the functionality of the application. These add-ons are not in general distributed with Pilot-DB as they change regularly. They are located on our web site in the db-plugins-xxx.zip file. The list of available plugins is subject to frequent change and so may not be up-to-date.
Plugins
This plugin exports a record to the Memo application.
With a machine running PalmOS 3.5 or above, lists of records are displayed in colour (or greyscale). This plugin allows you to change the colour (or shade of grey).
This plugin allows you to display information about the database currently being viewed.
This file is just an example for developers that displays at various points the names of the developers of Pilot-DB.
This plugin allows you to install a database on an expansion card and open it as if it were on the Palm itself.
This plugin is a driver that makes it possible to view and edit databases built with early versions of Pilot-DB.
This plugin is a driver that enables you to view databases built with JFile 3.x. It does not allow creating or editing the database structure.
This plugin is a driver that enables you to view and edit databases built with MobileDB 3.x.
Each plugin has a specific use that cannot be described here. Refer to the documentation file supplied with the plugin if there is one. For general use, refer to the chapter covering the use of plugins.
Other plugins do exist, including a barcode reader. They are not, however, Open Source. For further information, please contact the developer of the particular plugin that interests you.
