I. Introduction

Thank you for purchasing Symantec AntiVirus 2002 for Palm OS.

========================================================================

II Installation

Note: If you already have the Public Beta version of Symantec AntiVirus
for Palm OS installed on your device, please uninstall that
version first.

On Windows NT, 2000, or XP, Symantec AntiVirus for Palm OS requires
that the Palm Desktop software be installed to the same account as the
one you're installing Symantec AntiVirus for Palm OS.

Launch the Setup.exe (or Start.exe) file provided with your distribution
media and follow the onscreen instructions.

After the installation, you have to perform a HotSync for Symantec
AntiVirus to be properly installed. Following the HotSync, you will be
prompted to reset your device. This does not affect any data or
applications stored on your handheld device.

Congratulations! Symantec AntiVirus 2002 for Palm OS has been installed
on your handheld.

III. Using Symantec AntiVirus 2002 for Palm OS

Symantec AntiVirus for Palm OS is very easy to use. This section will
describe the basic operation of the anti-virus software.

After installation, you should see the Symantec AntiVirus icon on your
application list. It is installed into the "Utilities" category, but you
may transfer it to any category you wish. The Symantec AntiVirus icon is
a picture of a handheld device with a medical chart beside it, and is
labeled "AntiVirus". To run Symantec AntiVirus, tap this icon with your
stylus.

When you tap the AntiVirus icon, the Symantec AntiVirus main window
appears. When you tap the "Scan" button, Symantec AntiVirus scans your
handheld for all known viruses, worms and Trojan horses for Palm OS. A
progress bar shows you how many applications remain to be scanned.
After scanning, Symantec AntiVirus displays a summary screen that lists
any infections that were found.

If no viruses have been found, simply tap "OK" to return to Symantec
AntiVirus's main menu. If Symantec AntiVirus found a virus, you have
three options. First, if any infections were found, you can delete them
by tapping the "Delete" button. This is the recommended option. When
you delete a file using Symantec AntiVirus, the file name is marked with
an asterisk (*) to indicate that the file has been deleted. Second, you
can obtain more information on an infected file by selecting it and
tapping the "Info" button. Finally, at any time you can tap the "Done"
button to return to Symantec AntiVirus's main menu.

V. Known Issues

- It is highly recommended that you perform a manual AntiVirus scan
whenever you transfer any files to/from your handheld and an external
storage module. With some external storage modules, such as the
Northstar backup module for the Palm Vx and Palm m100, Auto-Protect
will not be able to silently scan any incoming or outgoing file
transfers between your handheld and this backup module. However,
once the files are on your handheld, Auto-Protect will be able to
detect any threats if you try to open or launch it directly from your
handheld.

- If Auto-Protect detects a virus-infected application during a beam
operation, you are given the option to <Don't Open> it. If you
choose that option, the device that is trying to send the virus-
infected application will not be allowed to open it, and may display
the following error message:

Error: Database:
can't open (0x0206)

Just click OK to return to the Beam application.

Because the sending device could not open the virus-infected
application, you may receive an error message on the receiving
device that it is out of space. This is normal and should not affect
the operation of the device.

- If you move Symantec AntiVirus for Palm OS from your PDA to an
expansion, backup, or flash module, the Auto-Protect setting may get
turned off. This is also true if you move it back from an external
module to your PDA. Please launch Symantec AntiVirus for Palm OS
again and re-enable this setting for full system protection.

- If a virus is detected on a flash module on a TRG Pro, you may be
given the option to <Delete it>. However, this isn't possible
specifically for the TRG Pro and the compact flash module. The TRG
Pro is using a proprietary API to copy data back and forth between
the base PDA device and the compact flash module. Thus, we have no
way of deleting it directly from the compact flash module on the TRG
Pro. Under this condition, it is recommended that you choose the
<Don't Open> option if a virus is detected. You can then delete the
infected file manually from the compact flash module on the TRG Pro.

- Symantec AntiVirus for Palm OS is incompatible with the DeskFree
Recycle 1.0 program from DeskFree Computing. If Auto-Protect is
active, you may get a Fatal Exception or Fatal Alert while running
Recycle. You have to disable Auto-Protect if DeskFree Recycle 1.0
is installed on your device. However, you will lose the extra
protection provided by Auto-Protect. If you choose to turn off
Auto-Protect, it is highly recommended that you perform a manual
AntiVirus scan whenever installing any new programs, either via
beaming, HotSyncing, or copied from an external storage module.

- On the Palm III device, or other devices that have Palm OS 3.1, the
Symantec AntiVirus for Palm OS application may get filed under the
"Unfiled" category, rather than the "Utilities" category.

- If the "Scan all after HotSync" option is enabled in Symantec
AntiVirus for Palm OS, you may have problems accessing the
"Connection Setup" menu item in the HotSync application on your
device. To get around this, you should turn this option off. Or,
you can launch the Preferences application and choose the
"Connection" option instead.

- If you are trying to install Symantec AntiVirus for Palm OS using a
Windows account name that has High ASCII characters in it, the setup
program may fail to launch. Please try installing using a Windows
account name without any of these characters in it.

- On Windows NT 4.0 systems, Automatic LiveUpdate requires that
Internet Explorer 5.0 and the Task Scheduler be installed on your
system.

- On the Sony Clie PEG-N750C, the MS Backup program won't be able to
completely make a backup of Symantec AntiVirus for Palm OS to the
Memory Stick. It will only copy the program (PRC) file, but not the
database (PDB) file. So, if you need to restore your Clie from a
backup copy created by MS Backup, you should also re-install Symantec
AntiVirus for Palm OS to your handheld.
